Rhodedendrons have not bloomed - suggestions?

I have 2 miniature rhodedendrons (miniature leaves, but bushes are now 5 feet tall and 2 feet diameter)- approx 3 years old - they have never bloomed. Can anyone tell me if they need some kind of nutrient, pruning, etc to bloom? The are located on the NW side of my house where they are primarily shaded. The bushes look very healthy and are growing rapidly.Rhodedendrons have not bloomed - suggestions?
I agree with the other in regard to soil pH and nutrients.

I have a question... do you prune your Rhododendrons? The reason is, they set their flower buds in the summer, for the following spring. Here in Michigan (USDA hardiness zone 5) the Rhodo's set buds in July or early August. If you do ANY trimming during that period, you'd be cutting off all your flower buds for the following spring. So, even though the plant looks good, there would be no/few flowers.

If it isn't the soil pH, I would guess that a cultural practice such as pruning was the issue.

I hope that this helps

Rhodies like to be planted shallow with the root ball close to the surface. They also demand an acid soil of around 4.- to 4.5. You may have to adjust the pH. They also like a lot of heavy organic mulch and you could use pine needles to help adjust the pH to a more acid soil. There are ';rhodi foods'; that you can buy which help to make the soil more acid.
Feed them Miracle Grow Acid food. They love acidic soil as do all azaleas. Shade is good.
They do require a certain ph and soil acidity. I would have the soil tested and go from there.
