Bougainvilia is a very hardy plant. It is best when planted in a soil high in organic materials. During blooming season, allow soil to dry out between waterings and never water the flowers.
Actually, the color on them is not a flower at all, it is instead a leaf. If you look closer, you will see the tiny flowers at the tip of the colored leaves.
