If they are to be protected somewhat from the elements, when do i put them back outside-do i wait till they sprout(will they sprout in a garage? or do i take them outside when things start to thaw a little and then they will sprout.)
Also-do i water the bulbs over the winter? I want these bulbs to bloom in the upcoming spring and summer but i am confused about the correct way to achieve this.
One more question-if thay make it and i want to plant them in the ground for the next year when would be the best time to do this?I planted daffodils %26amp; tulips in pots and I want them to bloom in the spring, where do i put the pots for winter?
Put the pot in the garage for the winter. If you leave it outside water will get into the pot and freeze/rot the bulbs. They will most likely start to sprout in early March when the temps rise (even in the garage). Check your local weather stations for last frost forecast. You can put them out after that even before if you are a risk taker. After they bloom (tulips) do not cut the stem when they start to die. If you do they will not come up that great the next spring. Daffodils you can cut. You can transplant to the ground whenever. layer the bulbs in the pot from bottom to top, tulips, daffodils, crocus. My suggestion would be to plant them in the ground right now if the ground hasn't frozen. There's always a danger when putting them in pots that the bulbs will rot since they may get waterlogged. They have to go thru a cold period and it's not easy to get the right temps unless you have temp controls in your garage. Why not try planting them and see what happens? you can always dig them up later if you want to put them in pots for show
plant outdoors and mulch well
