My orchids are dying any tips on how to maintain orchids and keep them blooming?

My mother has had the same orchids for years and years and it takes a lot of work to keep them going. One thing to note is that Orchids are just like any other flower, they only bloom every so often so it may not be practical for them to have blooms on all the time.

Orchids are a very finicky breed of plant. They like water and moisture but too much will kill them. Be sure that your Orchids are not planted in dirt like a regular palnt. A pot with tree bark in will be just fine. Most likely your orchids will have feeler roots that will be sticking out the bottm of your pots looking for moisture. Place your planted orchid pot on a small dish inside a larger tray that has water in it. Every other day, give your orchids some water but be sure to keep water in the tray so they can ';find'; it if they need to.

You also want to keep them warm and just the right amount. Put them someplace where they stay warm around the clock and where they can get about 2-3 hours of sun per day. It is difficult to really kill an orchid. They will slowly stop sending nutrients to certain parts of the plant to keep the entire plant alive. If you see part of your orchid turning brown and looking like it is dying, that is the first clue that your plant isn't getting what it needs. The good news is that as soon as you find out what it needs the orchid will send out new buds and start over.

There are also certain types of plant food that you give to orchids that you may want to track down at your local plant store. Also be sure that your orchids don't get parasites from other plants that you have in close proximity. My mother has a big gardenia tree that routinly gets small white mites that transfer over to the orchids and cause problems. Lastly, be sure that the roots and whatever they are potted in don't have a fungus or mold from being too wet. This is also a common occurance.

Hope this helps! My orchids are dying any tips on how to maintain orchids and keep them blooming?
Yes, see the below link for several tips.

First most orchids die from too little water not too much. If they are planted in bark move them to sphagnum moss.

Also they may need more light.

If the leaves are darker than they should be more light.

If leaves are wrinkled or splitting they need more water.
