Day Lillies only bloom once?

Illinois, do day lillies need full sun to bloom after the first time? I get them in spring, but they don't repeat bloom. i tried to thin them out also.Day Lillies only bloom once?
zocko,

Some daylilies bloom only once. Others can bloom multiple times. While still others are deciduous. So when you are picking out daylilies, don't take it for granted that they all do the same thing.

Most people want evergreen, multiple blooming or everblooming daylilies.Day Lillies only bloom once?
Yes, one bloom lasts only one day. You have to dead-head all the spent blooms to get it to create more blooms. These are not true lillies, they just look like lillies. Their root system does not consist of bulbs.

You may have to cull the bed, too.

Check your growing Zone, go to your local nursery and get advice on soil conditions, and be careful on what you grow besidie them because different groups of plants need different soil conditions.
Daylillies only bloom once per season. But have numerous flowers, hence the name day lillies
Mine were half in the shade and half the day in the sun. They bloomed once but then the other buds would bloom all spring and summer. Do you apply more potting soil around then in the spring. They need to be fertilize too and I usre alittle miracle grow on mine..Have you gone to a nursery and ask them. Good Luck to you!!!
My Day Lillies only bloom once. They are in mostly afternoon sun.

I pick the flowers when they are spent and put them in the fridge until I have enough for a meal. They are edible and can be sauteed in butter with salt and pepper. They taste good and if you have enough plants you could have a good meal out of them (side dish).

An after thought....... make sure your plants are the edible kind.
