I'm growing cantaloupes in my garden and the vines are full of blooms I was wandering if every bloom will produce melons.Do all the blooms on cantaloupes vines make melons?
No, just the female flowers set fruit. Male flowers pollinate females, fruit grows. Female flower will have a ';baby'; mellon just behind the petals...like zucchini, watermellon, cucumber...Do all the blooms on cantaloupes vines make melons?
only those females blooms that are adequately pollinated will produce fruits...a study (about 35 years ago - no web link) showed that melon size is directly correlated with the number of bee visits per blossom, and that even the 15th visit improved size...the more viable seeds produced in the melon, the more energy the plant puts into making sure that melon survives...
